This event is a huge trade show at the capital of Belize. It's one of the largest trade shows in the countries featuring locally made products with a focus on agriculture, animals and food.

Itโ€™s like a big village with capital as its title. It's primitive and peaceful though.

Things To Do

Art Box

  • $5.00 USD
  • 8AMโ€“6PM

ArtBox is at the entrance of Belmopan on the Western Highway. It's the best place to get quality souvenirs to remember your trip by. Some items include: woodwork, t-shirts, keyholders, local hot sauce and so much more. This spot is closed on Sunday.

Cave Tubing at Caves Branch

  • $55.00 USD
  • 7-Hour Tour
  • 1 Hour Away
  • 8AMโ€“5PM
group of tourists cave tubing

Cave tubing is one of the few activities close to the capital city. The tour is mentally & physically relaxing and easy while still being exciting. Having done this tour myself a couple of times, I can recommend it for first time visitors if you only have a day in the city.

Keep in mind the trip includes a 1.5-hour car ride to the site with the last 30 minutes being rough road following by a 45-minute hike before entering the cave system.

Belize Zoo

  • $15.00 USD
  • 45 Mins Away
  • 8:30AMโ€“5PM

Commonly referred to as the best little zoo in the world, this attraction is unlike any other zoo. It is truly a jungle environment right down to the bugs, so wear some eco-friendly bug spray. You'll find the animals to be very active and healthy and the staff actually loves their job which makes this zoo that much special.

It's the perfect place to take the family for a memorable experience โ€“ kids will love interacting the animals. Oh, and look out for the handwritten signs all around the park. They are both hilarious and informative.

Where To Eat

Belmopan Food Market

  • $4.00 USD
  • 6:30AMโ€“5PM

Located just a block away from the Belmopan Bus Terminal, the food market plaza is hands-down the best place to find good food. There are a few cuisines to choose from with prices that fit any budget.

The most popular stall is the first one to the right and you'll know since it's always full. The stall that follows sells the typical lunch menu like rice and beans with your choice of meat.

Also found in this plaza are Indian and Jamaican cuisine. My favorite stall is owned by a Nepali owner and is called Everest Restaurant. While relatively expensive, it's one of the best dishes I've personally had in Belize.

Belmopan Market Plaza

  • $4.00 USD
  • 6AMโ€“1PM

If you're a fan of Farmers Markets, this will be a nice treat, but you'll have to be lucky. This tiny market is open for half a day on Fridays only.

It's located at the exit of Belmopan City, so it's hard to miss. Vendors get together to sell natural and organic products including local bread, snacks, yogurt, organic fruits, veggies, natural soaps and souvenirs. This is a perfect stop to load up on supplies for the road trip.

Elda's Pupuseria

  • $2.50 USD
  • 8AMโ€“2PM
  • 5PMโ€“9PM

Finding street food in Belmopan might be a little challenging since restaurants thrive here due to the government worker target market. But this small little fast food shop found in the Maya Mopan area will blow your mind.

They have so many local street food options like panades, salbutes, burritos, garnaches and even pupusas which is my all-time favorite dish. They are all excellent and have brilliant presentation. The food is terrific value for money especially in the capital city.

This establishment closes on Sundays but open between Monday & Saturday.

Where To Stay

Belmopan Tiny Houses

  • $30.00 USD

If staying close to the town center is a not a priority for you, these tiny houses found on the outskirts will be perfect for your stay.

The tiny houses are found in Maya Mopan area which is around 50 minutes away by foot from the city center but only 10 minutes away by car.

Having stayed here myself, I think it's a perfect balance in a natural setting with all the basic requirements for a comfy stay. It's the best value for money for the city.

Getting Around Belmopan

Belmopan is a modern city and can be difficult to get around. Most locals move around on their private vehicle since most are government workers. Students get around walking or by taxi which can be a good option for tourists as well. Since everything is so far away and main city center is a ring road, it's not recommended to walk by foot especially with the harsh sun during the day.
